Emily Robinson

United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)

Give us a brief description of your background

My name is Emily Robinson and I grew up and live in Surrey. I joined UKAS in August 2016, immediately having graduated in Law from St. Mary’s University in Twickenham.

My current role is as a Team Leader in the Development and Technical, Quality and Risk section. Our Development section at UKAS are responsible for new areas of accreditation and our mission is to build a world of trust and confidence in the products and services accreditation underpins. I am responsible for coordinating the various projects that UKAS is involved with, this ranges across a variety of sectors such as healthcare, construction, forensics and the environment.

In my spare time I love to read, socialise with friends and take my golden retriever on long walks.

Who/what inspires you?

Female empowerment inspires me, and I am so pleased that 5 out of the 6 members of our cohort are women. I hope this represents the change of women working in high powered roles.

An example of a great female leader is Jacinda Ardern – Prime Minister of New Zealand who once said “I want to be a good leader and not a good lady leader. I don’t want to be known as the woman who gave birth”.

What does the word leadership make you think of?

I believe a leader is someone who can inspire and influence others to reach common goals.

How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?

I feel excited and honoured to take part in the Future Leaders programme and to be able to work with people from different sectors and share experiences. I am also eager to see what we can achieve as a group and how to become a leader who inspires.

What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?

I believe education is the biggest key to a sustainable future and with greater education on the issue I believe this will lead to societal and behavioural changes. Everyone has a responsibility to look after the environment and understand the damage we have all made.
