OFTEC

Give us a brief description of your background

I studied for a Politics degree before moving into energy efficiency and low carbon heating. My career to date has involved both traditional property insulation including ECO funding, the supply of steel for construction and later renewables such as Solar PV.

My current role is Registration Services Manager at OFTEC where I oversee the Registration of new businesses/technicians as well as the ongoing compliance to scheme and industry requirements. This is certification against schemes such as the Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) as well as many other schemes.

Outside of work, I enjoy taking my dogs out for nice walks in the Norfolk countryside and watching several different sports. As an Arsenal fan I have learnt to be optimistic for the future hoping that one day we will get there.

Who/what inspires you?

My current inspiration is knowing that there are changes coming in the future and wanting to be a part of that. Our generation can play a big part of shaping what happens for our planet and being involved in that drives me.

What does the word leadership make you think of?

Leadership for me is how someone manages a group, person or situation to ensure the best results for those around them. Good Leadership also helps to ensure the best outcomes wherever possible.

How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?

I’m excited by the course and the possibilities it has for the future. This course can be a positive step from both a professional and personal stance to ensure that my leadership can help bring as many people as possible with me to also help them develop. I have already learnt a lot of new ideas and insights that can be put into action now as well as the future.

What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?

I believe that the biggest driver to sustainability is a willingness to change and improve. The technological advancement we have seen in recent times has been astronomical and this will continue for as long as there is an appetite for it.

Often throughout history, people and governments have taken the path of least resistance for the easy wins. However, for net zero to work we all need to make changes not just some. Whether this be the car we drive (electric vehicles), how we heat our home (low carbon heating) or even the products and produce we consume. By working together and all making changes, net zero and future sustainability will become a real possibility.
