Comparison, Contribution, Confidence.
Comparison: don’t compare yourself to other people. Thinking there is always someone better than you can be disempowering; thinking there is always someone worse off than you is disingenuous. I prefer to aim to live by the two principles in Steve Peter’s ‘The Chimp Paradox’: i) life isn’t fair; ii) do your best. Comparison is corrosive.
Contribution: be a contribution. There is a beautiful chapter in ‘The Art of Possibility’ about being a contribution. However you feel about yourself or the world there is a difference you can make that will be unique to you. Big or small, it is of worth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-aVMdJ3Aok
Confidence: back yourself. You don’t need to compare yourself and you can make a contribution – so back yourself. As Mother Theresa said: ‘You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we do great things.” You have talent…let’s develop it.
