Give us a brief description of your background
My name is Alex Handley, and I am the Marketing Executive at Rainbow Restoration. After graduating with a master’s degree in Digital Media Management in 2021, I utilised my creative media skills to pursue a career in marketing.
Since joining Rainbow Restoration, a leading supplier of disaster recovery services in the UK, I have played an active role in the company's journey to reduce its environmental impact, including its carbon footprint, as part of a longer-term goal to achieve net zero.
Who/what inspires you?
I’m heavily inspired by my colleagues, not just for their talent but also the passion they have for the planet. Their dedication to environmental causes and commitment to sustainable practices motivates me to do better.
As a marketer, I’m inspired by brands and companies that have successfully integrated sustainability into their core mission and product offerings. Brilliant marketing campaigns that raise awareness about environmental causes in creative, compelling ways also inspire me.
What does the word leadership make you think of?
The word leadership makes me think of having a strong vision and the ability to inspire and guide others towards achieving important goals. A true leader possesses qualities like integrity, determination, empathy and excellent communication skills. They lead by example and create an environment where everyone feels motivated and empowered.
How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?
Excited and honoured. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to further develop my leadership abilities. I’m looking forward to learning directly from experienced leaders as well as forging new connections with like-minded professionals.
What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?
I believe sustainability should be ingrained in our core values and lifestyle choices. Businesses need to develop eco-friendly products and sustainable operations, while also genuinely committing to corporate social responsibility. But it’s not just on companies – individuals play a huge role too. We need to consume consciously, reduce waste and support environmental activism. It’s a collective responsibility to prioritise sustainability for a better future.
