MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme)

Give us a brief description of your background

I have worked at MCS since October 2019 after graduating earlier that year from Salford university with a Bachelor of Science in Geography. I began my career with MCS on the helpdesk and have progressed to now work as a compliance and enforcement analyst. MCS create and maintain standards that allow for the certification of products, installers, and their installations. Compliance with the MCS standards ensures a high quality of installations and products and provides consumer confidence in small scale renewable energy.

Protecting and improving the built and natural environment that we coexist in has always been a passion of mine both personally and professionally. I try to minimise my own personal impact on the environment as much as I can, whilst also working in the renewables sector to help reduce reliance on fossil fuels. I have also had the privilege to take part in some amazing charity work in Northern Thailand, building a gravity fed clean water system and toilets for a rural village.

Who/what inspires you?

My inspiration has come from my family. They have shown me that with hard work and dedication I can achieve whatever I put my mind to. The mindset they have equipped me with, and a good work ethic have allowed me to achieve everything I have so far and plan to achieve in the future.

What does the word leadership make you think of?

Leadership makes me think of support and the ability to help others develop, whilst working effectively to achieve a common goal. Leadership can be shown on any scale, whether this be running a company or within your personal life.

How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?

I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to take part in the programme. I am looking forward to developing my leadership skills with the support of likeminded individuals and developing a project to contribute to achieving net zero.

What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?

I believe that businesses adopting more sustainable practices, for example the use of recycled material, reducing the use of plastic, shifting to renewable energy etc and also educating and equipping the general public with the knowledge and skills to live more sustainably on an individual level is essential. I believe the desire to be more sustainable is there, but the application of sustainable practices is undoubtably more difficult, but will be achievable with support and investment from all industries.
