RSE (Ross-shire Engineering)

Give us a brief description of your background

After graduating from the University of St. Andrews in May 2022 with a BSc in Biology and Sustainable Development, I started my role at Ross-Shire Engineering (RSE) as Sustainability Graduate, working within the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) team. I had originally enrolled at the University to study Marine Biology, however, as I became more aware of the relevance and importance of Sustainable Development I switched to a joint degree. Although I have only just started my career, I am inspired to continue to learn about the low carbon economy and our mission to net zero.

I am originally from Perthshire but have moved up to Inverness for my current role at RSE. Being in the Highlands gives me plenty of opportunity to explore the outdoors and find some beautiful walks. As well as walking, I love playing and coaching netball and spending time with family and friends.

Who/what inspires you?

Knowledge is a powerful tool and if used wisely it can have a huge impact on the way we develop solutions. As much as we are responsible for the climate emergency, we are capable of mitigating against it using knowledge and science. Hard work and determination from family and friends has always inspired and motivated me.

What does the word leadership make you think of?

Leadership to me involves passion, ambition and courage to challenge the status quo. An effective leader will provide opportunities for those who want to reach their full potential.

How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?

Excited! This programme will push me out of my comfort zone and challenge my own capabilities. I am really looking forward to the sharing of experiences and knowledge with the other delegates.

What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?

Education is key! People must understand the what and the why behind sustainability. The effects of climate change will impact everyone, but unfortunately will target disadvantaged communities the most. We are all responsible to make small changes to see a larger benefit. Leaders will be responsible for encouraging this change!
