Olivia Broad

Environment Agency

Give us a brief description of your background

I’ve been with the Environment Agency for close to five years. I began my career in the Chief Executives Directorate working with the Chief of Staff and then accepted a 1-year assignment working with the Director of Water. I recently moved to support the Director of Sustainability and Service Operations.

Who/what inspires you?

I am inspired by stories; I love learning from others and listening to what has shaped their unique perspectives on the world. If you have a good story to tell or an experience I can learn from, I’m all ears!

What does the word leadership make you think of?

The word leadership makes me think of resilience. In a heavy storm you use navigation tools to guide you through the storm. Leadership is a tool, and the right leaders will use this tool to guide their people.

How do you feel about taking part in the Future Leaders programme?

I am excited to learn new skills and feel incredibly grateful to be on the programme.

What do you think are the keys to a sustainable future?

I believe we will achieve a sustainable future through:

Education – Education is a right, not a privilege. Ensuring we all have equal access to education is imperative for global climate action.

Innovation – Encouraging smart innovation and new ways of working.
