Future Leaders: Cohort 2
A proposal for our planet
The FLP2 cohort wanted to design a lifestyle app that would make it incredibly easy to make small changes in daily life that would make a big difference collectively.
The group undertook an initial phase of research where they discovered six take-note truths:
1
Most people know they can do better
2
But they lack capacity to do so
3
The psychological distance is too great
4
Those that do good, do it for selfish reasons
5
Habits don’t need to re-written but elevated
It is about creating access to better decision making, with as little impact to people’s daily routine as possible
6
A utopian future is incomprehensible
It is very easy to dramatise through Hollywood the worst possible outcome if people don’t do anything. It is very easy to project a future where we have done everything right. Why are we, as humans, working towards preventing the worst over creating the best? There is no win or lose, there is just lose or prevent.
Sustainability for most people is right up in the top of the self-actualization zone because it is not threatening safety or day to day lives. It was evident before the pandemic but evermore so people are starting to realize that sustainable living does have an impact.
People need to have reassurance that what they are doing is okay.
It is about creating access to better decision making with as little impact to daily routine as possible.
Therefore, the cohort wanted to solve two problems:
The lack of access to good decision making especially when it comes to consumption.
The inability to track impact – unable to recognize the bad or celebrate the good that our decisions are having on the planet.
PlanNET mission statement:
We make access to good decision making easy, guilt free, and measurable.
Cohort 2 created PlanNET – the app that helps you do your bit for the Earth by doing just a little thing every day.
